Touchdown ROD in land report

Post by olegsu »

Hello!

I have a question about Touchdown ROD. It's vertical speed at touchdown. But the speed of which part of the plane? Gears, nose, wing, CG? They may differ significantly! It's really important for landing quality assessment!

For example, the plane is landing. Altitude is 5ft, vertical speed(on variometer) is -100ft/min. Pitch is 5 degrees. Smooth landing expected.
Then pilot wants to increase pitch slightly by sidestick. Plane is rotating immediately. Vertical speed hasn't changed much, but nose is moving up, gears is moving down! Vertical speed of gears at touchdown will be "variometer+rotate speed"! It may be 100+200=300ft/min, only "positive landing"...

Hi,

It is the instant ROD at main gear touch down.

Jpgarraio, thanks!

Real aviation use G to evaluate landing quality. I have found on internet old FSI report (https://fsipanel.com/wp-content/uploads ... Report.pdf). We can see GForce. Could you please add touchdown GForce to current version of landing reports(MSFS2020, FenixA320)?
I think it's possible to read GForce from MSFS. There is add-on(https://flightsim.to/file/16358/shift-z-stats). This add-on can display instant G, but it is not comfortable to watch digits while landing...

Real pilot told me it's incorrect to evaluate landings by ROD(vertical speed) because the vspeed of different parts of the aircraft can be different(in case of rotation)
